Demonstration – 3

The march snaked its way toward the center of West Berlin.

The weight of a “crucifix”.

It was not until I was in the darkroom, swishing chemicals around over prints, that I realized why this event had seemed different than demonstrations that I had seen in the States.

This was a medieval religious procession.  It was not only the European setting, but the participants and what they carried, as well.

It began with the crucifix bearer, albeit in this case carrying the weight of an oversized flag.  In the enlargement above, readers can see the strain and his concentration.

Flag bearer leads the way.
Leading the way.
